In line with the ‘roadmap’ set out by Central Government in February, Furniture Works in Scarborough is set to re-open again from Monday 12th April 2021.

This follows the most recent closure during Lockdown 3.0 in a bid to combat the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The workshop and retail unit can be found at 39 St Thomas Street in Scarborough and will open again next month if all goes to plan.

First Opening

Furniture Works first opened its doors in autumn 2020.

The St Thomas Street location includes a workshop to the rear and a retail space to the front.

Learners from Scarborough-based Futureworks NY hone their creative skills by renovating and upcycling furniture which can then find its forever home.

Furniture Works was the idea of Futureworks NY founders Michelle Padron-Kitching and Sarah Thornton. The team worked hard to get the unit ready and once opened, trade was brisk.

How Its Done

Learners from Fututureworks NY, which has its office HQ in The Street, near William Street coach park, have transformed furniture into stunning pieces that have been snapped up by customers.

One of the key positives is that donated furniture can be lovingly restored rather than going to landfill, an element that attracted lots of media attention when they first opened.

A spokesperson said: “Our learners and their mentors do an amazing job transforming tired pieces of furniture into something that can find its ‘forever home’. So, we not only put our learners’ skills to good use, we also prevent items heading to landfill, and provide essential quality furniture at a price people can afford.”

Furniture Works is set to reopen open Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm and will have Covid Safety measures in place.
